LT (low tension) power cables carry electricity from transformers and main panels to sub-panels, motors and buildings, at voltages up to 1.1 kV. Polycab's handbook lists LT power cables from 1.5 sq mm to 1000 sq mm, with 1, 2, 3, 3.5 and 4 cores. Conductors are copper or aluminium. Insulation is PVC or XLPE. Cables are armoured or unarmoured, with FR, FRLSH, PVC ST2 or LSZH sheathing. Should I choose armoured or unarmoured cable?
Armoured cable is used for direct burial and where the cable may be damaged. Unarmoured cable suits trays and protected routes. Follow your design or ask us.
Copper or aluminium conductor?
Copper is smaller for the same current and easier to terminate. Aluminium is lighter and lower in cost for larger sizes. Your consultant's design should decide.
